Sharing a workspace variable enables selected workspaces to use the variable in their workspace. The shared variable is read-only, meaning that shared resources can only be edited in the source workspace.

1. Share a workspace variable

Perform these steps in the source workspace. To automatically share a workspace variable, use the Create Share Request step.

  1. Go to Build > Workspace Variables and select the workspace variable you want to share.

  2. Click the sharing icon.

  3. Select the workspace to share the variable with and click OK. You can only select from the workspaces you are a member of.

  4. The share request is automatically accepted if you’re also an Owner of the destination workspace. Otherwise, an email is sent to the destination workspace owners requesting that they review and accept the shared workspace variable.

2. Accept the share request

Follow these steps when you receive an email saying a workspace variable was shared with your workspace. To automatically accept or deny a share request, use the Accept Share Request or Deny Share Request steps, respectively.

  1. In the email, click Review workspace variable.
    This will open the Workspace Variables page in Torq.

  2. Review the workspace variable information.

  3. Decide whether to accept or deny the workspace variable. The user who shared the workspace variable will be notified of your choice by email.

  4. If accepted, the workspace variable is ready to use in the destination workspace at this stage.

3. Manage shared workspace variables

To automatically remove or revoke a shared workspace variable, use the Remove Workspace Variable Sharing step.

Revoke a shared workspace variable

You can revoke a shared workspace variable from the source workspace by following these steps:

  1. Go to the Workspace Variables page and locate the variable you want to revoke.

  2. Click the Sharing icon.

  3. All the workspaces the workspace variable is currently shared with are listed at the bottom of the modal.

  4. You can revoke the workspace variable from any workspace.

  5. An email will be sent to the destination workspace owners to notify them that the workspace variable was revoked.

Remove a shared workspace variable

You can remove a workspace variable that’s shared to your workspace by following these steps:

  1. Go to the Workspace Variables page and select the variable you want to remove.

  2. Click Remove.

  3. An email will be sent to the source workspace owners to notify them that the workspace variable was removed.
